What We Do
Every treatment is tailored to you. We combine advanced techniques to address the root cause of your pain, not just the symptoms.
Remedial Massage
Treating the cause, not just the symptom
Remedial massage is a holistic treatment that aims to trace discomfort back to its original source, treating both the cause of the problem and its symptoms. This technique involves locating and repairing damaged tissue and supporting the body's natural repair mechanisms. It can be gentle or strong, deep or shallow, and may include passive stretching to mobilise specific joints.
Key benefits include improved blood circulation (helping to remove toxins from muscles), calming the nervous system to ease pain and discomfort, and toning and relaxing muscles to improve joint mobility.
Sports Massage
For athletes and active people across the Algarve
Sports massage is tailored to sporting injuries and ailments. It can be quite vigorous and is designed to relieve the stress and tension that build up in the body's soft tissues during exercise. It's not just for professional athletes — anyone who exercises regularly can benefit enormously.
This technique helps to reduce the risk of injury, alleviate post-training soreness, decrease recovery time, and prepare your body for athletic events. Whether you're a golfer at Vale do Lobo, a triathlete training around Loulé, or a weekend runner, sports massage can make a real difference to your performance and longevity in sport.
Trigger Point Therapy
Releasing the knots that cause referred pain
Myofascial trigger points are hyperirritable spots in the fascia surrounding skeletal muscle, often felt as palpable nodules in tight bands of muscle fibres. These can interfere with normal muscle function, leading to stiffness, pain, and decreased range of motion — and they often refer pain to seemingly unrelated areas of the body.
Trigger point therapy involves analysing your pain patterns to identify and deactivate these points, restoring balance to the body and providing relief that can be immediate and long-lasting.
Active Release Technique (ART)®
A patented system for soft tissue problems
ART® is a patented, state-of-the-art soft tissue system that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. It is highly effective for conditions resulting from overused muscles, such as headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow.
Each ART session combines examination and treatment. Alex uses precisely directed tension and specific patient movements to correct abnormalities in soft tissue. Alex is a full-body ART® practitioner, qualified in spine, upper limbs, and lower limbs.
Deep Tissue Massage
Targeting the deeper layers of muscle
Deep tissue massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It is particularly helpful for chronic aches and pains in areas like the neck, back, and shoulders. The movements are slower and the pressure is deeper and more concentrated on areas of tension and pain.
This technique is excellent for people who have been living with chronic pain, those recovering from injuries, and anyone who carries significant tension in their body from physical work or prolonged sitting.
Myofascial Release
Gentle, sustained pressure for lasting change
Myofascial Release is a safe and effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle, sustained pressure to myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. Unlike other massage techniques, it works with the fascia — the connective tissue that surrounds and supports every muscle, bone, nerve, and organ in the body.
Restrictions in the fascia can cause significant pain and limit movement. By releasing these restrictions, we can restore normal function and provide relief that other treatments may have failed to achieve.
