Myofascial Release in Almancil, Algarve

Myofascial release in Almancil, Algarve. Gentle, sustained pressure on restricted fascia, the connective tissue wrapping every muscle and nerve in your body. It is the slowest technique Alex uses and often the one that works when firmer treatment has not.

Why come here for myofascial release

Fascia wraps around every muscle, bone, nerve and organ. When it tightens through injury, surgery, overuse or long-held posture, it limits movement in ways that are hard to find with standard assessment and do not respond well to pressure.

The technique is patience. Sustained, low-load contact held long enough for the tissue to change, which takes minutes rather than seconds. Pushing harder defeats it, which is why people who have only had firm massage often find this unfamiliar at first.

Alex uses it where the assessment points at fascia rather than muscle, frequently for long-standing restriction, post-surgical scarring and pain that has resisted everything else.

What myofascial release is for

Where fascial restriction tends to be the thing holding everything else back.

  • Long-standing stiffness with no clear injury
  • Restriction after surgery or scarring
  • Pain that has not responded to deeper massage
  • Whole-region tightness rather than one muscle
  • Postural restriction built over years
  • Recurring problems that keep returning to the same place
  • Chronic pain with a sensitised nervous system

What a session involves

01

Finding the restriction

Fascial restriction feels different from muscle tension. I assess by moving skin and tissue in different directions to find where it will not glide.

02

Sustained contact

Light, steady pressure held for minutes while the tissue changes under the hand. It should feel like a slow unwinding rather than a push.

03

Rechecking movement

We retest the movement that was limited. Change is often less dramatic in the moment than deep tissue, and often lasts longer.

Common questions

Why is it so gentle?

Fascia responds to sustained low load, not force. Push hard and it tightens defensively. The gentleness is the mechanism, not a softer option.

Will it feel like a massage?

Not really. There is little gliding and few strokes. It can feel like very little is happening, right up until the tissue releases.

How long does it take to work?

Each restriction needs a few minutes of sustained contact, so an hour covers less ground than a deep tissue hour. Changes often settle over the following days.

Is it suitable after surgery?

Often yes, once healing is complete and with clearance from whoever did the surgery. Scar tissue restriction is one of the clearest uses for it.

Can it be combined with other work?

Yes. Most sessions mix it with remedial massage and trigger point work rather than using it alone for a full hour.
