Why people book the mobile service

Most of it happens mid-holiday. Four rounds in five days, or a padel court every morning at nine, and by six in the evening the idea of driving to a clinic in Almancil has lost its appeal. The table comes to the villa instead, and you do not have to be anywhere afterwards.

The rest is residents. People who have had the same lower back for a decade and have stopped expecting it to change, who would rather be treated at home than queue on the N125 twice.

Alex has a Sports Science degree from Universidade da Beira Interior and a Diploma of Remedial Massage from the NSW School of Massage in Sydney, where he finished top of his class. He spent years working next to physiotherapists and sports doctors before coming back to Almancil. He races triathlon, which is why he knows what a heavy training week does to a calf.

What gets treated on a villa visit

The same work as the clinic. Nothing is reduced to a holiday rub because it is happening in a living room.

  • Lower back pain and stiffness, including the kind that only shows up after golf
  • Sciatica driven by the piriformis and deep hip rotators
  • Shoulder pain and impingement, including at the top of a backswing
  • Tennis elbow and padel elbow, treated at the forearm rather than the sore point
  • Neck and upper back tension from flights and desk weeks
  • Calf, Achilles and hamstring problems in runners and triathletes
  • Plantar fasciitis and foot pain after long walking rounds
  • General recovery between rounds, matches or training days

How a villa visit actually works

01

Message me on WhatsApp

Tell me where you are staying, what hurts and when you are free. On the gated estates I also need the gate and the villa reference, plus how I get in, because several of the roads need an access arrangement.

02

I bring everything

Table, towels and oil. What I need from you is about 2m by 3m of clear floor somewhere quiet and not freezing, which a terrace often does better than a bedroom. A bathroom nearby is useful but not essential.

03

Assessment before anything is touched

Roughly the first ten minutes. Where it hurts, when it started, and what actually restricts the movement. For a golfer that means hip and thoracic rotation before I pick up any oil.

04

The treatment

Remedial massage, trigger point work, deep tissue and ART® combined for the specific problem. A padel elbow and a golfer’s back get different sessions, not the same hour with a different name.

05

What to do before your next round

What to do, and what to stop doing. If you are playing again in two days I will say whether deep work now is a good idea, and sometimes the answer is no.

Common questions about mobile massage

How much does a mobile massage cost in the Algarve?

€140 per hour, including travel within Almancil, Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo, Vilamoura and Loulé. There is no separate call-out fee. The clinic in Almancil is €37 for 30 minutes, €52 for 45 and €60 for the hour if you would rather travel.

Which areas of the Algarve do you cover?

The core area is Almancil, Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo, Vilamoura and Loulé, which is where most villa visits happen. Faro and the surrounding area are usually fine too. For anywhere further, including Albufeira and the western Algarve, ask when you book rather than assuming.

What do you need set up in the villa?

About 2m by 3m of clear floor, somewhere quiet and not freezing. Alex brings the table, towels and oil. A bathroom nearby is useful but not essential, and a terrace often works better than a bedroom.

Do you come to hotels as well as villas?

Villas and apartments are the most common. A hotel room works if there is 2m by 3m of clear floor, though it is worth checking with reception first that they allow a visiting therapist, because some do not.

Can you come the same day?

Sometimes, and it is always worth asking. Same-day slots open up more often than people expect, particularly earlier in the week. If you are here for a few days and something has started hurting, message rather than waiting until it has stopped you playing.

Is a mobile massage as good as going to the clinic?

The treatment is the same and so is the assessment. The clinic has a little more space and a proper plinth height, which matters marginally for some upper body work. For almost everything else the difference is that you do not have to drive afterwards.
